In this current issue of HOT DOC Magazine, its editor Kostas Vaxevanis published a list of 2.059 Greek citizens who are believed to sent their bank deposits abroad during the debt crisis. Among the persons in the list, one can find well known politicians, journalists and businessmen .The particular list-known as “Lagarde list” named after the former French Finance Minister and current Head of the IMF who provide it to the Greek authorities- has become a major issue in domestic politics and there have been many accusations for the Government for delaying its publication.
Earlier tonight Greek police through its official website announced the warrant issue for Kostas Vaxevanis. Immediately other journalists and individuals from the country but also from abroad formed a great solidarity network in the Social media either by using the hashtag #Freevaxevanis in Twitter or by joining the special Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/freeVaxevanis
In addition to the solidarity movement, the main opposition party SYRIZA-EKM denounced the arrest warrant as: “political persecution” while the Independent Greeks party leader Mr Panos Kammenos accused the Government for persecuting Kostas Vaxevanis instead of the former Finance Minister, Papakonstantinou, who avoided to publicise it.
