70 years of Greek-Canadian relations

The following week, Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos will pay an official visit in Canada, marking the 70th anniversary of the Greek-Canadian diplomatic relations. The two countries exchanged ambassadors for first time in 1942, while World War II was in a crucial point.

Except for being allies in the War, having a positive co-operation within the UN and NATO, Greeks and Canadians are also linked through another bridge; according to reports there are more than 300.000 Canadians citizens who claim Greek ancestry  While Greece is going through her toughest times after WWII , the active Greek diaspora is working intensively to help a new wave of immigrants who leave their country due to the financial crisis.
