100th anniversary of the Balkan Wars

This month marks the 100th anniversary of the Balkan Wars, a conflict that changed significantly the status quo in Southeastern Europe and the total  balance of power in the region; Its outcome is still affecting the politics, the societies and in a smaller degree the economies of the Balkan countries.

In October 2012 the allied armies of  Serbia, Greece, Montenegro and Bulgaria declared war against the Ottoman Empire, succeeding to overcome the numerically inferior and strategically disadvantaged Ottoman army.As a result of the war, almost all remaining European territories of the Ottoman Empire were gained and partitioned among the allies.  Furthermore the events that followed the Balkan wars led to the creation of an independent Albanian state in 2012.
